Three, two, one...

Houston, we have a problem.

And that problem is a big ass functional cyst on my left ovary that is pumping out estrogen and delaying my period and generally fucking up this cycle.

The RE gave me two options:
- stay on lupron for another week and check it out, and see if we can start stims then
- cancel this cycle, wait for my god-forsaken period to arrive, and then start on cd2.

He frankly wasn't very confident that a cyst of this size (3.2 cm) would go away in a week, and I went over the calendar with the nurse and I will be in lovely Ohio for Thanksgiving during the week of ET with the revised schedule, so I've called it off.

AAAAAArgh.

So I am basically benched until this cyst goes away, and then I get to start all over again.

Questions to the peanut gallery:
- Have any of you had this happen? How long until the cyst resolves and you get your period?
- What have your RE's done to prevent this from occurring -- I'd prefer this not to be a repeated event.

Oh I am so frustrated I could explode. I can't DO anything except wait.

  1. I am SO sorry about the damn cyst. They are the most frustrating little things ever.

So some questions. Did you do a BCP lead-in with your Lupron? That would help with cyst-control but it's a fine line with the BCP's, Lupron and over-suppression.

I've had more cysts than I care to count. They usually resolve in about a month.I hope that yours go away quickly so you can get the show on the road!
IMO, being benched because of cysts is the worst. I'm so sorry!

  2. I had cysts after an ectopic pregnancy - rather huge ones - and they did resolve on their own in about a month, for what that's worth. They haven't come back & it's been almost a year of fertility treatments. But at the time? I thought I was going to die of frustration. So sorry you're going through this.

  4. Like it's not frustrating enough to deal with all of this! I've had at least four cysts in the last year interfere with my IUIs. It usually took a month on BCP to take care of them, but once it took two months. :( However with the IVF cycles, the BCPs before Lupron kept them away.

  5. When I pressed him, my RE offered to aspirate the cyst so I could continue my cycle without interruption. might be something to consider. SOrry for the frustration!

  6. Crap!! I can't believe that! I'm sorry that this stupid cyst had to derail your plans. Damn. I've never had to deal with a cyst, so unfortunately, I have no words of wisdom. I know how frustrating it is to have your cycle delayed when you are all ready to go. I had mine canceled once when I didn't respond well to the stims and once with a donor when her estrogen levels were too high to start. I know this isn't the news you wanted, but it sounds like you made the best decision considering the crappy circumstances.
