Promise

All is normal. Everything measures as it should for 5w6d.

There is actually a sac in my uterus (as opposed to somewhere else) so that's good.
There was a clearly identified, albeit blurry fetal pole hanging out on one side. It measures 4.55mm, which is exactly what it is supposed to be right now.
We saw the heart flickering away, but my RE said it was a little too early to register an actual heartbeat. But I saw the flicker and that was cool.

Yolk sac? Yeah, I don't remember anything about that. I was just pretty psyched that the amniotic sac wasn't empty, and I lost focus when I saw the flicker.

What I do know is that my RE said that everything right now looks as it should, and that she's not concerned about the spotting episode from earlier this week. She cautioned us that it's early, but said that she was pretty excited for us.

My husband came with me, and it was pretty fun to have him there, although he couldn't see the little bean as well as I could. And since today went well and our next view isn't for 2 more weeks, then he made me promise to not freak out for at least a week. And so I made that promise, because there is nothing I can do that will change things in any way, and all I can do is eat well, stay hydrated, rest and be diligent about my drugs (prenatal, estrace, progesterone, folgard, baby aspirin). Everything else is out of my hands.

Terrifying, but true. Next scan is July 21, so all I can do is hang on until then.

I'm still amazed at this entire thing. Amazed, happy, and really surprised.

  2. Wow, that is so exciting!!!! I am glad that your RE thought it was to early to register a heartbeat, as I am still freaking out that mine was slow at 5w6d (and I had a 4.1mm fetal pole at that time). So your good news provides me with some relief as well. (Although after 4 weeks of no clue what's going on in there, I am totally batshit-crazy anyways).

    Congratulations on the good news!!!!!

  3. Such great news. I know how scared you must be, pregnancy after IF is wonderful but terrifying all at the same time. I am so glad that everything is as it should be. Wishing you a quick and easy 2 weeks until the next peak at your little bean.

  4. YES!!! Now YOU can be the positive one for us for at least a few days, if not the week you promised your husband. Although he's clearly not experiencing all the hormones you are else he'd realize what a huge thing it is that he just asked for. These guys, so freaking optimistic... ;)

This is all such good news. I'm SO excited!!!

  8. Yahoo! Congrats on another good appointment! I'm so delighted to hear this update today. :) Isn't that flickering heartbeat just the neatest darn thing? I know this will be another long 2 weeks for you, but hang in there! :)

  10. YES!!!!!! This is a huge hurdle and you have cleared it. To see as much as you did this early...well, it bodes very well for a healthy (hopefully, BORINGLY healthy!) pregnancy. July 21. I know it can't get here fast enough but you have passed this first, scary, all important step. Take those meds. Take it easy. Easier said than done, I know. (And I think the one week moratorium on freakouts is an outstanding idea).

  11. WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL! I have huge amounts of hope for this pregnancy and huge amounts of joy for you both. Well, for all three of you, really!

I think taking a week to feel the happiness would be a wonderful thing. And I love your husband for not expecting you to stave off anxiety for TWO weeks. That's unreasonable.

  12. Great news! I know, isn't it so hard to wait until the next time you get to see your little one? I was amazed how much more I could see of our little bean at 8w4d than my previous sightings (my first sighting was at 6w3d and I really couldn't see much except the heartbeat flickering). So, in 2 weeks you should be able to see a lot more. And, really, (at least I tried to tell myself) there's nothing you can do one way or the other to change whether there's going to be something to see there again in 2 weeks (except take care of yourself!). Congratulations and can't wait to hear about the next sighting!!

  14. Such excellent news! Okay, hang in there. Still keeping good thoughts coming your way. Try not to overanticipate, which is sort of like asking someone to not think about a shot when all they can think about is the shot, but hey, distraction is key. July 21st is not so far off, and even if it feels like forever.
